Every patient’s United Healthcare PPO is a unique contract between them, their employer, and their insurance provider, so the terms of one person’s policy can vary significantly from that of another. This contract holds that the patient and/or their employer will pay a fee to the insurance company in exchange for partial coverage of the patient’s oral health services. Before we begin any routine, restorative, or emergency dental treatment, we will be sure to help you understand your policy and what it will pay for.

Most United Healthcare PPO plans are designed to encourage patients to seek preventive care that can preserve their oral health and make more expensive and intensive restorative and emergency treatments unnecessary. This helps keep the patient healthy while minimizing rates for policyholders. Your plan’s coverage will probably look something like this:

  • Preventive care such as biannual checkups and cleanings and annual X-rays are covered by 100%.
  • Minor restorative treatments are usually covered up to 80%
  • Major restorative treatments such as wisdom tooth extractions may be covered by 50%.

Research suggests that every dollar spent on preventive dental care can save the patient $50 on emergency and restorative treatments. The best way to maximize your benefits is to schedule your next checkup at our Coppell office.
